Welcome to Pacific Permaculture

Active, On the Ground and Practical...

We are inspired by the positive creative potential of every human being.  Humanity can provided for all of it's needs, while simultaneously
enriching and enhancing the function of all living systems.  Competition, destruction and greed are not default human characteristics, just
a finite few choices among an infinite many.

"We can choose to be just as much positive, as we are negative"
- Geoff Lawton

Permaculture is a practical and scientific design system for the harmonious integration of landscape, ecology and human habitat.  An active and positive choice for the future.

Pacific Permaculture offers a range of high quality and experienced permaculture education, consultancy and design services.  Students who attend one of our courses quickly move on to making dramatic and positive changes in thier communities, workplaces and households.

Present day humanity is faced with challenges on an unprecedented scale: social injustice, environmental degradation, shrinking energy supplies, and an unreliable economy. Permaculture offers active, positive and practical solutions to all of today's problems and into the future. Sign up for one of our courses and learn about simple everyday steps that will unlock your positive creative potential.

You want to know how to design positive change!

We can teach you how to do it!

What permaculturists are doing is the most important activity that any group is doing on the planet”
-David Suzuki

Up-Coming Courses And Events:

Planting and Designing a Food Forest

Planting and Designing a Food Forest, Saturday October 2nd

The experience:

An excellent opportunity to gain valuable "in the field" knowledge in the design and planting of a new food forest in the lower mainland.  As a participant in this workshop you will be working with an integrated and holistic landscape design for passive water harvesting, pond, gravity fed irrigation systems and terraced beds on steep terrain.

With a final series of earthworks freshly finished and the fall planting season upon us, in this workshop, we will be covering the design and planting of a food forest .  Come join us for a informative and active day which clearly demonstrates how permaculture principles and design add value and stability to the most difficult of terrain.

Principle of Stability
"It is not the number of diverse things in a design that leads to stability, it is the number of beneficial connections between these components."

-Bill Mollison

Food Forest Maintenance

Managing a Food Forest, Saturday September 25th 2010

The experience:

A exciting opportunity to contribute to the evolution of a young food forest in the lower mainland.  As a participant in this workshop, you will gain valuable 'in the field' knowledge of permaculture and forest garden maintenance principles.

Planted in March 2010, this food forest is in need of its first chop and drop treatment as well as some seeding and planting up.  The food forest is part of a larger design that involves integrated water harvesting design including swales, ponds and on contour cropping beds.  By participating the the maintenance and management of this food forest you will be playing an active role in the evolution of the larger system.

This is real world permaculture design principles in action. An honest and open sharing of both the things that work and things that don't work.

"Principles differ from dogmas in that there are no penalties for error, but only learning from error, which leads to a new evolution. Dogmas are rules which are intended to force centralized control, and it is obvious that every such rule or law represents a failure in the system. It is too late to fail, but never too late to adopt sensible principles for our guidance, and throw away the rule book."

-Bill Mollison
